C.I.T.O - Disability Centre

C.I.T.O - (Centre for Integration through Therapy Occupational)
To ROAD members and those who have visited Romania with us this will always be known as the Disability Centre. It is run by our dear friend Rodica Marian, a wheelchair user herself and a woman of great determination in terms of setting up the centre. We first met Rodica when we were invited to her home. She had a lot of disabled young adults and children squeezed into her home and they were all busy with arts and crafts. She explained that her vision was for a day centre where they could make arts and crafts to sell and to give the young people a purpose as the possibility of finding employment at the time - or indeed now was almost impossible.
Her vision was realised when she and Dorica Dan managed to secure the ground floors of two very derelict apartments’ blocks from the Local Authority. They worked hard to transform the space to create the now fantastic centre, which has been successfully running for a number of years. ROAD was able to help with the supply of radiators; members who painted the doors and windows; knitting and sewing machines; materials and more. It is always somewhere we visit on each trip to Romania to buy some of the handmade items and catch up with old friends.
